Marley Umensetter is a mom, community advocate, and life-long West Virginian running for House of Delegates in District 13. She grew up in Lubeck, graduated from Parkersburg South High School, and is currently working towards a degree in Veterinary Technology.Over the past few years, she's worked to bring positive change within her her community through local organization and now she's fighting to take those efforts to the state capitol where she can stand with West Virginians and stand up for West Virginia.

Lower Utility Costs

West Virginians shouldn't have to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.The Public Service Commission is meant to protect ratepayers from unfair utility rate hikes, which they've consistently failed to do. The West Virginia PSC is currently appointed by the Governor, but I believe these positions should be elected so that they actually have to answer to the people they're making decisions on behalf of.

Restore Local Control Over Data Center Development

The last thing West Virginia needs is another exploitative industry coming into our state with no accountability measures or community oversight in place.Data Centers pose a huge risk for the communities that they're built within. (Increased utility rates, water supply issues, lower property values, etc.)West Virginians deserve to have a say in when, where, and if a data center is going to be build.

Prioritize Public Education

Our public schools are the only schools accessible to every single student in our state, regardless of their zip code or financial status. We need to keep public funding in our public schools and modernize our school funding formula to ensure that they're receiving the funding and resources they require to provide a high quality education to every child in West Virginia.

Support Working-Class West Virginians

To improve the quality of life in West Virginia, we must provide the resources our communities need to access safe, well-paying jobs in our state.
Increase the minimum wage - nobody working 40 hours a week should be living in poverty.
Expand access to affordable childcare for every family - parents need access to affordable childcare in order to go to work.

Pass Anti-Surveillance Legislation

Parkersburg has an alarming number of ALPR (Flock) cameras that have popped up over the past year. These cameras scan every vehicle that passes by and stores that information in a database to track where these vehicles are traveling each day.They're a massive violation of our privacy and a huge threat to our safety. We need to pass legislation at the state level to ban license plate readers from being placed around our communities.

Strengthen
Unions

Strong unions create strong communities.
Organized workers earn higher wages, have safer workplace conditions, and receive better benefits.
It’s time for West Virginia to end right-to-work legislation, which only weakens the effectiveness of the unions in our state, and enforce policies that support labor unions.

Support Small
Business Owners

Small businesses are the heart of our communities. Our state government spends a lot of time catering to large corporations and outside industries, but I believe we should shift that energy towards better supporting our small and local businesses.

People-Powered & Community-Focused

You cannot represent a community that you're not familiar with.My platform was built from conversations that I've had with people in my community.It's so important that our elected officials stay present in their communities once they're elected, which is why I plan to hold frequent town halls within District 13 to make sure every person that I'm representing is able to share their thoughts and concerns with me.
